About the Project

BP engaged SwitchCo to oversee the successful delivery of its dealer and distribution rebrand programs nationwide.

BACKGROUND

SwitchCo were engaged in 2021 to provide short term PM services to assist with managing the annual rebranding program across both the dealer and distributor networks nationally.

CHALLENGES

Following commencement of services, SwitchCo identified a need for improved processes and controls to manage the high volume of projects and address the gaps in understanding between contractors and BP stakeholders.

An example was related to the Main Identification sign (MID), whereby the site dealers are responsible for footing installation or footing recertification, including the engineering of said footings. If not coordinated carefully, this could lead to build delays which in turn impacted on the overall program schedule. This led to SwitchCo to develop a MID engineering process, consulting BP stakeholders throughout, before implementing training of all BP managers and subcontractors to ensure that they adhered to and reported in-line with this new process.  SwitchCo also implemented a meeting matrix to ensure regular, consistent, and clear communication to the client.

SwitchCo’s development of a program framework and the implementation of process education improved communication and project execution.

OUTCOMES

SwitchCo’s engagement resulted in the successful delivery of the 2023 Annual Program of Works on time and on budget. BP management recognised the value of SwitchCo’s approach, leading to continued engagement.

The 2024 program is on-track for completion in November 2024, with December designated as a blackout period. Significant efficiencies have been realised through SwitchCo’s centralised project management and the adoption of standardised procedures, and the 2025 program is currently in development. SwitchCo also implements continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring ongoing value and excellent service for BP, with the long-term goal of an ongoing partnership.
