About the Project
BACKGROUND
Ampol Australia engaged SwitchCo to manage installation of new double walled fibreglass lining of its underground steel storage tanks at its Cabramatta service station. The tanks had reached the end of their operational lifespan and required an upgrade, in order to continue to meet safety and environmental regulations. This involved a process of uncovering the tanks, carrying out the relining process, and backfilling the tanks, with the service station remaining operational throughout the project.
CHALLENGES
The main challenge that SwitchCo faced was that the site was operational for the duration of the project, requiring the reline & pipework to be completed in stages with considerations to the flow of an operational service station. Through careful planning and management, SwitchCo ensured that the client was able to continue generating revenue while the project was underway, while maintaining safety as the highest priority. Groundwater was encountered throughout the uncovering of the fuel tanks, which presented a risk. SwitchCo addressed this challenge by implementing a carefully developed method in uncovering the tanks which enable the team to control groundwater and keep the tanks secure. This is a result of our proven process, Sharpen the Axe, when we take on this type of project.
OUTCOMES
By implementing robust planning and collaborating closely with the client and all stakeholders, SwitchCo is always step ahead and in control of the project. Ongoing stakeholder management enabled successful delivery of the project. The project was also completed with a budget saving and was delivered three weeks early. The client was impressed with SwitchCo’s level of communication, our detailed approach, and seamless handover.
